Coming season, ’15- ’16 l was lucky enough to have offered a carte blanche at the concerthalls of Utrecht, Tivoli Vredenburg. I’m very happy to do this serie of four concerts, going into the unknown worlds between improvisation and classical music. First we start with a concert together with the Osiris Trio (a ‘classical piano’ trio, so violin, cello and piano) who will be teaming up with the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio. Then on october 3rd we will present the Rembrandt Frerichs trio in it’s purest form. 2016 will see the first concert on february 4th together with Violinist Liza Ferschtman, with whom we have been making some great music together. In april we will end the series with an early music party, bringing together recorder-player Erik Bosgraaf, soprano Klaartje van Veldhoven, theorbe player Mike Fentross and the trio, playing baroque music.
This season, ’14- ’15 l’m artist-in-residence at the concerthalls of Leiden. This means l’ll have the unique opportunity to work together with some musicians from the classical scene that inspire me. Our first concert was with harpist Remy van Kesteren. The second concert was with Dominic Seldis, solo-bassist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. On March 26th we’ll play the third concert in this series together with hollands’ hippest violinist Liza Ferschtman. On all of these concerts, we have been going out of our comfort zones and created something new, bringing to the stage the best of the classical and the improvised music worlds.
In the summer of 2014 we were delighted to play a concert at the MA festival Brugge in Belgium. This festival hosts concerts dedicated to early classical music. We performed at the spiegeltent in the town of Lissewege, playing both improvisations with Bach and some new compositions by Rembrandt. see here how we improvise with Bach. Listen here to middle-eastern music, and here to my new music for old instruments. Two Belgian TV stations made a reportage about our concert, see more of that in the video section on this website.
At the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, the Rembrandt Frerichs trio was invited by Harpist Remy van Kesteren to join him for a concert. with only two short rehearsals before the concert, it was an adventure to dive into classical music together with him and perform some new compositions of mine. After this concert we have played in Leiden, for my artist in Residence series a concert with Remy again.
